Newsletter September 2022

Distinguished Delegates,

We are delighted to send out our first newsletter of the semester and hope you all had a great start to the new academic year!

Catch up on all the events that await you and read about our first topic block of this semester as well as our new partnership with BIMUN.

Veterans Event

Welcome back Veterans! Deniz, our Head of Events, has planned a marvelous first event to dive back into MUN after the long summer break. Turn up on Wednesday, 28 September at 19:00 in KOL-F-101 to catch up with your fellow returning members and get updated on upcoming MUN activities. Later in the evening we will let the get-together come to an end at a bar. We count on all our veterans to join us for this fun event!

Please sign up using this Google Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd9f2bywdzT8UBKwcfzjfS8AZRwERzzqeWWZPlZHVWp2a3wzQ/viewform?usp=sf_link

We cannot wait to bring the Team back together and to find out what you have been up to during the summer break.

Rookie Session

Do you have friends that are interested in giving our association a try? Then tell them to come to our Rookie Session on Thursday, 29 September at 18:30 in KOL-F-101!

It is truly the perfect opportunity to gain an insight into our Team and our activities. After a short (but sweet) informative presentation by the board, you will get the opportunity to experience a short mock debate by more seasoned members. To end the night, we are going to head to a bar - a ritual we call “beer delegation”. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to get to know our veterans and ask everything you’ve always wanted to know.

We are excited to get to know many potential new members!

First Topic Block

Starting on the 5th of October 2022 we will be debating on our first topic block of the semester. We are pleased to announce that the topic being discussed will be "The Decriminalization of Illicit Drugs". This topic will be discussed in the format of the United Nations General Assembly, as it is a multilateral issue. The decriminalization of illicit drugs concerns itself, but is not limited to, public health, black market trade and medical research.

We have chosen this as our first topic in the hopes of achieving a dynamic debate. We feel that everyone should be able to have an opinion on the topic and discussing it as a MUN topic will also provide members with a new perspective with which to work with. The international scope and potential for debate in regards to the decriminalization of illicit drugs will make for an interesting four weeks.

We look forward to hearing insightful and thoughtful speeches and of course witnessing the passing of an impactful resolution.

- Melkon Yengibaryan, Head of Operations

BIMUN Partnership

In November 2021 MUN Team UZH had the opportunity to attend the wonderful conference BIMUN/SINUB held annually in Bonn, Germany. Our delegates had a marvelous time and came back with many good experiences to look back on. For 2022 it was pretty clear to us then, that we were interested in attending BIMUN once again. Thanks to some previous arrangements and students from Bonn also attending ZuMUN 2022 with great success, we therefore set out to formalize our partnership.

As a result we are happy to announce that we are partnering with BIMUN to assure we'll be able to attend BIMUN 2022 and they will be able to attend ZuMUN 2023. We look forward to taking our delegation there in November and we'll definitely have a great time again!

- August Norup, President

We wish you a successful start to the new semester and look forward to welcoming you all back. Stay tuned!

See you soon,
Your Board

August, Darya, Tajana, Melkon, Sebastián, Deniz, Humberto and Aurora
