Upcoming Events

The MUN Team UZH board is busy planning many great activities for the upcoming semester. We are already looking forward to welcoming you back to our events and weekly sessions in February.

Not long now until our team will travel to Vienna together! For our annual outing, our Head of Events Deniz has organised a trip to the beautiful capital of Austria. Besides delicious schnitzels, our members will have the opportunity to visit UN buildings and learn more about their work. We wish you all a great trip and look forward to hearing about your experiences!

Our next conference is already coming up in March: WorldMUN 2023 in Paris! This is one of the largest conferences in the world, with over 2,000 students from all over the world taking part. Our Chief Head Delegates Tajana and Darya are working flat out to ensure we have a memorable conference. We are more than certain that our delegation will have a wonderful time in the city of love.

MUN at Kantonsschule Rychenberg Winterthur

Last month we had the pleasure of visiting Kantonsschule Rychenberg Winterthur and continuing our tradition of chairing their MUN Session. We are proud to have been doing so since 2014 and this year was as much of a success as all the years before. Two High School classes participated in the easily divisive topic of "Freedom of Religion or Belief" and put forward many arguments, topics and issues that were discussed at length.

The Students were able to experience the tough side of UN when the final resolution failed with a draw in the voting stage. Despite this, however, we were happy to see everyone engage with the topic and we are certain that this MUN will have left an impression on everyone's mind.

We are grateful to have been able to chair a committee with such motivated students and already look forward to next year's KRW MUN!

From Singapore to Brazil

As the spirit of the Lunar New Year's celebration took over Singapore, I was in the privileged position to be able to visit. There were dragon dances being carried out in the streets among palm trees and tropical birds. I was lucky enough to be invited to a Lo Hei, a traditional dinner where the main course consists of the tossing of a salad as high up in the air as possible for good fortune and wealth. Singapore with its extraordinary demonstrations of affluence such as the famous "boat on top of a hotel" has a lot to offer. A great importance is put on the history and culture of the different ethnicities inhabiting this tiny island, making it a wonderful country full of a variety of things to explore, from museums to the delicious cuisine.

- Sebastián Nuñez, Head of Finance

Isn’t it fantastic to be back home? The answer to this very question came to me after I felt the warm summer wind that blew in my face while leaving the airplane. One should remember seasons run the other way around in the southern hemisphere. While Europe has its winter, Latin America has its summer. Anyways, being a foreign student in Switzerland has this thing that one cannot go back home that often. The whole think gets almost unimaginable when one realises that he comes from the other side of the world, and that it takes 18 hours flying to get to his home country. Putting apart this little disadvantage, it is nice to make the best out of one’s time: meeting old school friends again, swimming in the waters of a tropical country and speaking one’s native language. Besides visiting relatives, there is always a plus in here, namely the food some of them cook (or order). When one is Brazilian, it is usual to miss the taste of a homemade Rabanada, Tapica or Feijoada. Now, when one is Southern Brazilian (or Gaúcho) like me, it is even more usual to miss the flavour of our typical grape juice, our Churrasco or our Galeto. These things taste like home, and I have already had the fortune of having them all. A lovely view of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul’s capital city and the place we are currently spending summer vacation, is down here for you to enjoy!
