Newsletter January 2022

Distinguished Delegates,

We hope you had a great start into the new year! In this newsletter, we take a more casual approach and offer you fun recommendations for your winter break.

Upcoming Events

The MUN Team UZH board is busy planning another great semester of MUN. While we cannot reveal any details yet, be sure to look out for fun events in February!

Fun Things to Do Over the Winter Break - Your Board's Recommendations

Discover a New Side of Zurich
What do Frankental, Fluntern and Auzelg have in common? They are all final stops of tram lines here in Zurich! Make use of that ZVV-travelcard or GA and explore some of the less frequently visited sites in Zurich.
-Lorenz, President

Keep Warm at the Zoo Zurich
If you haven’t been yet or it‘s been a while since you‘ve gone, I can only recommend you go take a trip to the Zoo Zurich. It‘s not far to travel from Zentrum and you‘re sure to see some fascinating animals. The Masoala Hall is sure to warm you up on a cold winter day as well.
-August, Vice President

Go Ice Skating
My winter must-do every year has to be ice skating. If you are not the skiing or snowboarding type of person, ice skating is the perfect amount of payoff for the amount of effort you put into it. Just make sure to stay away from reckless kids! I personally would like to recommend the Dolder ice skating ring. It’s immersed in the forest and easily reachable by public transport from the city centre with the Dolderbahn from Römerhof (tram line 3 or 8).
-Darya, Chief Head Delegate

Spend a Day at Ikea
There is one thing I love to do for a day trip. That is going to Ikea. I enjoy walking through each section and looking at the items displayed even if I have no need for new furniture. My favourite section is, of course, the plant section. (However, I would recommend putting some more money into buying a plant from a proper plant shop or a craft shop as the survival rate of your plant will increase.) I like to end the trip by treating myself to some fish and chips.
-Ridika, Head of Operations

Organise a Giant Paintball Tournament
One of the things I would very much enjoy doing during the semester break is getting a group of people together for a giant paintball tournament. There are several indoor and outdoor locations for this around Zurich, so if anyone is interested, hit me up!
-Patrik, Head of Finance

Visit a Neighbouring Country
One of my favourite destinations close to Zurich is the tiny country of Liechtenstein. Only one hour and a half away by train, Liechtenstein is dotted with charming mountains and picturesque villages. The capital Vaduz is a beautiful little city, and the country is home to 5 castles, some of which are still intact today. (Fun fact about Liechtenstein: During the Austro-Prussian War of 1866, Liechtenstein sent an army of 80 strong to battle. 81 men came back: They allegedly picked up a defector and brought him home with them.)
-Eliseo, Head of Events

Get some Mountain Air
My recommendation is a day trip to Davos. My family has gone to Davos every winter since I can remember, and we usually do the required amount of skiing and then enjoy a hot chocolate either at Café Bünda or Café Weber, depending on the weather.
-Amin, Head of Fundraising

Enjoy Zurich on a Budget
If you're looking for something to do in Zurich without spending any money, I can recommend visiting one of the city's museums that have free admissions: The Völkerkundemuseum, the MoneyMuseum or the Stadtgärtnerei, for example. My personal favourite museum with free entry is the Helmhaus Zurich. It hosts contemporary art from Switzerland, especially Zurich, and is always worth a visit.
-Jenny, Head of Communications
