Newsletter September 2021

Distinguished Delegates,

We are excited to send out our first newsletter of the semester and hope you all had a great first day back at university. We have a variety of fun events as well as many interesting topics of debate planned for you and look forward to starting off another year of MUN with you soon!

Coronavirus Update

We are delighted to announce that our weekly sessions are going to be held in person again this semester. To be able to use the university's rooms to their full capacity and for our members to feel safe, we will require all participants to present a Covid certificate. The same conditions will apply for all MUN Team UZH events. For more information please refer to the University of Zurich's Coronavirus policy: https://www.uzh.ch/en/about/coronavirus.html. Should any questions or concerns remain, contact us at info@mun-uzh.org, where we are happy to address them.

Veterans Event

To welcome back our veterans after the long summer break and to get you back into the MUN spirit our Head of Events, Eliseo, has a wonderful first event planned. Taking place on Wednesday the 29th of September at 19:00 in KO2-F-175, this event is meant specifically for returning members. There, you will receive relevant information for upcoming MUN activities, and most importantly, be able to catch up with your fellow members. Moreover, the topic of the first debate block will be revealed on this occasion. So definitely come if you cannot stand the curiosity any longer!
Sign up using this Google Form: https://forms.gle/BnuiEPS6Goeo6mZz9.

We are looking forward to connecting with you again and to hear what you have been up to in the last couple of months.

Rookie Session

After meeting many interested students at the Ersti Fair, we are looking forward to giving our future members even more insight into our Team and our activities. If you are interested in giving our association a try, come to our Rookie Session on Thursday the 30th of September at 18:30 in KOL-F-101. After an informative input and an introduction by us, the board members, you will see what we do every week through a short mock debate.
Afterwards, we are going to head to a bar. During this social aspect of our student association, which we call "beer delegation", you will have the opportunity to meet more seasoned members and talk to the other participants. This less formal setting is also your chance to ask us any remaining questions about MUN!

We are excited to get to know you!

New Website and Logo

The board took advantage of the time we had over the summer to ensure MUN Team UZH would continue to show its best sides, especially in its online presence. We were excited to finally reveal both our new website and logo to all of you at the beginning of September.

To familiarise yourself with our new website visit www.munuzh.ch. All relevant information about MUN Team UZH can be found there. The website will be used in the weekly sessions more intensively than in previous years. Any relevant changes will be introduced to you at the Veterans Event and the Rookie Session.

For many years our logo portraying the Grossmünster has served the needs of MUN Team UZH well. However, after much debate, the board decided at the beginning of this academic year to move forward with a new logo for the association. The main idea behind the new logo was to find a design that more intuitively connected our club to the city of Zurich. In addition to making a more recognizable logo, we also wanted it to be more memorable and to leave a stronger impression. These goals in mind, we came up with a design that fuses the sigil of Zurich with a Yinyang pattern and is imbued with the traditional elements of a MUN logo. The world map and the two olive tree branches manage to seamlessly tie the imagery related to Zurich back in with the United Nations. We would like to sincerely thank Natalie Joray (@natalie.joray) for her brilliant work and her patience in designing the logo according to our wishes. Furthermore, we are grateful to our Chief Head Delegate, Darya Shiryaeva, our Head of Fundraising, Amin Tlili, and our former president, Tim Hetzer.
With this new logo, we hope to carry on our association's legacy and take MUN Team UZH to even greater heights!

Impressions from the Ersti Fair

On the 15th and 16th of September, we had a stand at the Ersti Fair in Lichthof. The board was able to talk to many interested students and we hope to see a great number of them at the Rookie Session on the 30th of September. We all had a great time introducing people to MUN and talking about what we do every week.
We would like to thank VSUZH, VSUZH Impulsfabrik, and the University of Zurich for giving us the opportunity to showcase our student association once again this year.
